We Came Here to Burgle Your Turts!

I discovered the miniseries Over the Garden Wall last year before Halloween, and it quickly became a fall favorite. I've watched it more than once in the past week. It's an excellent story of two half brothers lost in a mysterious wood and trying to find their way home. A nice mix of fun and creepiness, all wrapped up with a bow of nostalgia. It's ten "chapters", each one being around ten minutes long. The first chapter is available on YouTube:

... but I highly recommend finding a copy yourself, since commercials can really take you out of it (especially children's commercials), and the last Cartoon Network showing I saw left a few plot points/side stories out.

I will note though, there is a claim of a blu-ray version floating around, but that is NOT true. Over the Garden Wall is only available on DVD and digital. I, myself, have the digital version.

Has anyone else seen this little gem? What did you think?

  1. I found out about it several months ago, and was able to watch it online. It is an amazing little miniseries! Wonderful animation and voice acting.

It's, well, "unsettling" is the best word I can come up with. It's not outright scary or a dark fantasy. It's just a little "surreal"; enough to give you the sense that Something Is Not Right Here. Fortunately, everything really is resolved at the end.

  2. I really love this show! I discovered it last year thanks to a friend's recommendation and now I'm always that recommendation along to others. It is very well made and a fantastical story that really pulls you in.

It can also be watched in it's entirety though HULU, which is how I watched it for the first time. I do need to get my own physical copy of it though.
