Tiny Update On The Mask

This week does not give me any opportunities to continue my small dash of mayhem, but I did get a tad further on my mask before the weekend was over.

After I removed the foil, I tried it on for size to see how it would fit. I widened the eye holes on the outer edges to give myself a bit more room and then added a cut up toilet paper roll as makeshift, built in goggles.

Once I got those into place and where I wanted them, I built up some more paper mache around the eyes to both close the gaps and keep the "goggles" in place.

When I get more time, I have to figure out how I'm going to add the beak. Initially, I though about making the entire beak out of paper mache, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how heavy it would be. So if anyone out there has any ideas on how I might go about making a lightweight beak, please feel free to comment and let me know. I don't think I'll have time to work on this project until the weekend after next, so there is plenty of time!

I Have No Sense of Time

Apparently, my brain thinks three in the morning is the perfect time to make a paper mache mask. Granted, I have been planned to make one for a while, but not that early in the day. Or late, depending on your view. This is what I have so far:

I made a makeshift mold of my face using tin foil. I've never made a mask using this technique, so I don't know how well it will fit. I'm planning to turn it into a plague doctor mask for Halloween. At the moment, this is more of a prototype, since I don't know how it will turn out. Fingers crossed! I think it is going well so far.

Beware the Ides of March

The Death of Caeser by Vincenzo Camuccini

Anyone else in the mood for a Marlon Brando movie?

This Weekend's Recommended Movie

Oz, the Great and Powerful (2013)

If you loved The Wizard of Oz, I would definitely recommend going to the theater to see this one. I had a couple complaints, but they were very minor compared to the rest of the movie. It was visually stunned, funny, and had quite a few wonderful references to the movie, as well as the book. Go see it!

This Month's (Re)Reading

I paused my Sherlock Holmes readings and started reading Watchmen and Philosophy: A Rorschach Test, but it got me in a mood to go back and reread Watchmen by Alan Moore.

As with many people, this was the first graphic novel/comic book I ever read, and it opened a door for many more. Over time it has turned into one of my favorite pieces of literature, and has also lead to many a debate with friends, everything from whether Dr. Manhattan was (spoiler!!) justified in killing Rorschach, to whether the movie holds up to the graphic novel (I say, yes, it does, but that's another post for another time). Anyhow, as with most books, I'm in for an emotional ride.

What are you reading this fine spring day?

Tuesday's College Problem

It turns out this spring break will not be much of a break. Maybe if I stopped playing Call of Duty late into the night I wouldn't have this problem...

20 Innocents

I feel a documentary coming on if all my work gets done today. I'm thinking something about the Salem witch trials. Maybe something off the History Channel, back when it was into history.

Lord Have Mercy

I stopped watching Ghost Mine a few weeks ago due to lack of interest, but I WISH WITH ALL MY HEART there was a longer version of the theme song. I have a soft spot for mountain revival style songs, à la "Bartholomew" by The Silent Comedy, and this would be wonderful edition to the meager collection. Unfortunately, it seems to be made solely for the show.
